Online Portfolio website

Online Portfolio website

I've been tinkering with Drupal as part of upgrading my web development skill-set for some months now. As part of the learning process (and because I wanted an editing interface to update the site easily) I've redesigned my own website to work on the Drupal platform and utilise some dynamic web features. My background is in 2d design that includes a modest amount of front-end coding experience and a rather bloody-minded approach to problem solving.

Enough background though, I present my site: www.johnnewall.com

The site really revolves around the portfolio section with a few supporting pages. After tinkering with a multitude of modules on test sites I really didn't implement that many in the end. CCK and Views are at the centre of making most of the site happen with sorting and presenting content, they really are stellar modules. ImageCache and ImageCrop neatly sort out images so they fit in the design. Finally some 'fancy' trim was achieved with Lightbox to display images and views_Slideshow adding a little motion on the front page.

All of the modules were surprisingly easy to implement, as was creating a custom site. Porting static HTML layouts to make a Drupal theme proved to be straight forward after reading a few tutorials. The site utilises several custom template. Fewer could have been used but I wanted to keep flexibility for styling different sections.

Next step might be to implement client access with some features to aid with project tracking.

Re: Online Portfolio website

Hello Betha,

Nicely done and your implementation looks great. This is exactly what I'm also planning to do. I have decided to support and implement and support Drupal but still finding out how Drupal works. Can you let me know how you did this? Is it a matter of creating "content types" / "views" / ".tpl.php" files?

Regards,

Re: Online Portfolio website

Great work.
How did you move the arrows to the bottom in LightBox2 - and get the title of the pic inside it as well?

Thanks.
